Itinerary

Arrive in Adelaide, where we meet you on arrival and transfer you to your hotel. A special welcome dinner awaits in the Adelaide Hills this evening at Hardy's Verandah Restaurant, which has a Three-Chef Hat rating. Stay: Mayfair Hotel, Adelaide (D)

This morning we'll set off for the Flinders Ranges, stopping in at historic Anlaby for a Signature Experience. Continue to the natural amphitheatre of Wilpena Pound. Set among river red gums and native pines, Ikara Safari Camp is the perfect base for exploring Wilpena Pound National Park. Stay Two Nights: Wilpena Pound Ikara Safari Camp (B/L/D)

Signature Experiences:
  • With heritage listed gardens, historical architecture and sweeping rural vistas, Anlaby is a destination stepped in history and tranquillity. Enjoy a guided tour of the Anlaby gardens and the homestead. Soak in the history over a relaxed lunch. Catch a sneak peek into the life of the servants when Anlaby was operating as one of the great South Australian rural homes of the Edwardian era. The butler's pantry, scullery and kitchen give an insight into how a house like Anlaby depended on a retinue of domestic staff. Marvel at the terraced lawns, rose gardens, peacock house, shade house, glass house, camellia house and walled vegetable garden and marvel at the amazing trees in the Anlaby heritage listed tree collection.

This morning is yours to explore at leisure. Perhaps take a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound to gain a true appreciation of this natural wonder (additional expense). After Lunch, embark on a guided walk to explore the incredible natural surrounds of Wilpena Pound.

This evening, enjoy dinner back at your resort, before retreating to your deck with relaxing vistas of the bush. (B/L/D)

Further explore Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, a cultural, historical and geological wonder renowned for its spectacular 800-million-year-old landscapes. Follow in the footsteps of Douglas Mawson as you spend the morning in the geological site of Brachina Gorge. Keep an eye out for the endangered yellow-footed rock-wallaby as you explore the quartzite-ridged gorge.

Later, enjoy lunch at the iconic Flinders Ranges hotel, The Prairie, before setting off for the Barossa Valley. On arrival settle into your scenic hotel overlooking the rolling hills of the Barossa ranges and Jacobs Creek Vineyard.

Later, enjoy dinner at your hotel overlooking the vines. Stay Three Nights: Novotel Barossa Valley Resort (B/L/D)

Explore the Barossa your way this morning with your chosen activity. After working up an appetite, call in to Barossa royalty and home of iconic regional wines, St Hugo. Afterwards, why not see the valley from a different perspective with an optional helicopter flight (own expense). (B/L)

Freedom of Choice:
  • Get active this morning with a bushwalk with your Driver-Guide at Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park. Alternatively, indulge in the traditional German social ritual of Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake) in nearby Tanunda, a nod to the Barossa's German heritage.

Spend some time this morning wandering around the many stalls at the Barossa Farmer's Market, mixing and mingling with the locals. Here the valley's finest produce can be sampled and purchased – a true feast for the senses. After your market visit pop into Maggie Beer's Farm Shop to hear all about this famous Barossan and watch the produce come to life with an interactive cooking demonstration. Relax into the afternoon with a grazing board lunch at the Farm Shop. Later, bid farewell to your fellow travellers with an exclusive final dinner at Fino Seppeltsfield. (B/L/D)

Signature Experiences:
  • An exclusive dinner at Fino Seppeltsfield awaits this evening. Drive along the iconic avenue of date palms leading to Seppeltsfield Winery, view the heritage-listed architecture, dine in their underground cellar and be treated to a 6-course degustation.

Transfer to the airport this morning for your onward flight. (B)

A very enjoyable trip with APT 0 , QLD, Australia, Apr 2024
APT booked a very good hotel in Adelaide - The Mayfair & The Novotel in Barossa were excellent as was the Glamping tent in Flinders Ranges at Wilpena Pound. Dinner at the restaurant in the camp was mostly tasty but a bit hit & miss at times, although when you consider how remote it is they did an excellent job with the variety of food presented. Staff ...read more there were friendly at all times. The scenery was beautiful. Our Guide & Driver Kym was wonderful, so careful with all driving, always looked after us all & was very knowledgeable, friendly & patient. A definite asset to APT in every way.

There were some guests (only 10 of in total so heaps of room on the coach) that did not enjoy the grazing plate meals but we thought they were fine. The food itself was very good, the wine tastings were well organised, the dinner at Seppeltsfield was great (beautiful grounds & buildings). St Hugo’s lunch was also a highlight but I think the dinner at Mt Lofty was too much food, still good but perhaps slightly pretentious. Very expensive wine, over $70 for 2 standard glasses of red wine (public holiday loading & c/c charges). The cooking class at Maggie Beers was very interesting & we enjoyed our time there, perhaps again too much food after eating the meals cooked in the demo. The drive through Brachina Gorge was amazing! Lunch in Parachilna was a standout too.

All in all the whole 7 days were filled with very interesting activities, different places to see, food was of a good standard & the group got along very well. Highly recommend the whole trip to anyone interested in seeing those parts of SA, but remember there is quite a bit of coach travel involved so not for everyone.
