Itinerary

Arrive in London and transfer to your accommodations at Rosewood London, where you meet your tour leadership team and fellow guests over cocktails and dinner. Stay: Rosewood London (D)

Arrive in Tunis and transfer to your hotel overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. After settling in, join your fellow guests for dinner accompanied by a local band playing jazz and Tunisian music.

The following morning, visit the old medina of Tunis to explore its ancient streets and alleyways. Lavishly decorated with tiles, carved stucco and marble, they lead to historic palaces, hammams, mosques and madrasas. After a lunch of local specialties, take a short drive to the city of Carthage, seat of a once-great trading empire that stood as ancient Rome's strongest rival.

Visit the Antonine Baths, Carthage's most impressive ruin and the largest bath outside Rome. Enjoy time at the reconstructed Roman-era theatre, and admire the view of the shimmering Gulf of Tunis from Byrsa Hill. Return to the hotel and dine at the restaurant of your choice at the hotel.

On your last full day in Tunisia, select from several Design Your Day options:

  • Visit Sidi Bou Said to walk its cobbled streets and view its distinctive blue and white houses.
  • Explore the Bustling Souks of Tunis to practice your negotiating skills.
  • Journey to the Roman City of Dougga, arguably the most magnificent and intact Roman site in Africa.
  • Enjoy a Day of Leisure at the Hotel, with the option to choose a spa treatment or a round of golf.

Your evening concludes with a sumptuous dinner and lively entertainment. Reboard the private jet the next morning for your flight to Nairobi. Stay: The Residence Tunis (B/L/D)

Your private jet now takes you to Nairobi, Kenya, where you enjoy a night at the historic Fairmont The Norfolk hotel. After breakfast the next morning, travel to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, where an orphaned elephant is adopted on your behalf during a private visit with the rescued animals and their keepers. Then sit down for lunch at a local restaurant before boarding your charter flight to the Masai Mara.

Spend the days observing its amazing variety of wildlife, including the iconic Big Five: lion, elephant, leopard, rhino and Cape buffalo. Explore on game drives, a guided bush walk and even an early morning balloon safari complete with a private Champagne breakfast served in the bush. You also have the opportunity to visit a Maasai village, where you meet the nomadic herders who have acted as stewards of this land for hundreds of years. A visit to a local school provides a glimpse of how A&K Philanthropy is working to make lives better in the Mara.

Your last evening includes an informal talk from a wildlife conservation expert. Stay: Fairmont The Norfolk (8 Feb) & Angama Mara (9-11 Feb) (B/L/D)

Arrive at Rwanda's Kigali International Airport and continue by road to Musanze, your gateway to Volcanoes National Park. Set out on your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to encounter the mountain gorillas residing in the jungle between 8,000–11,000 feet above sea level, part of a worldwide population of only about 1,000.

This is one of the world's truly memorable experiences — a look into these magnificent creatures' eyes brings home the bond that exists between them and us. It also underscores the poignant fact that they are on the edge of extinction, and that your presence here contributes to their continued survival. Learn the ins and outs of gorilla conservation during a talk with a Gorilla Doctor.

This afternoon, pay a visit to the research centre established by anthropologist Dian Fossey in 1967 and attend a talk by a conservation expert. Later, enjoy a private visit to the Iby'iwacu Cultural Centre for an indepth immersion into traditional Rwandan culture.

The following morning, choose a Design Your Day option:

  • Trek to Spot Golden Monkeys, active and playful creatures who live in bamboo trees at the base of the volcanoes.
  • Explore a Local Market to browse a variety of goods.
  • Relax and Enjoy a Massage at your lodge.
Stay: One&Only Gorilla's Nest or Singita Kwitonda Lodge (B/L/D)

Your journey now takes you to Botswana, whose abundant waters mirror the boundless African skies and provide life-giving sustenance to a variety of wildlife. Land at Victoria Falls Airport and transfer by local charter flight to Kasane, where your search for wildlife begins as you make the drive through Chobe National Park to your accommodations at Chobe Game Lodge.

In addition to some of the largest elephant herds on the continent, the Chobe plain is home to buffalo, giraffe, kudu and hippo, as well as predators such as lion and leopard, all of which you may come across during your game drives through Chobe National Park, led by your expert wildlife trackers.

Between game drives, relax in one of the lounges, take a dip in the pool or stake out a spot on one of the viewing decks to watch the ever-changing wildlife parade across the river. Enjoy a unique sundowner safari experience in the evening, cruising down the Chobe River, cocktail in hand. Stay: Chobe Game Lodge (B/L/D)

Begin your morning with a drive to Victoria Falls and enjoy a visit to the “Smoke That Thunders” before reboarding your private jet to Cape Town. South Africa presents a landscape more familiar, if equally beautiful, with modern cities and tended fields nestled alongside mountains and scrubland. Transfer to the elegant Cape Grace Hotel for a casual dinner overlooking the harbour.

The following day, participate in your pre-selected Design Your Day activity and dine at the restaurant of your choice from our recommended options:

  • Explore Cape Peninsula with a Scenic Helicopter Flight, flying over Cape Point Nature Reserve and landing to search for African penguin on a beach known only to locals. Continue on to the Cape of Good Hope for a gentle hike.
  • Visit Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was confined, and then, weather permitting, ride a cable car to the top of Table Mountain for thrilling views of Cape Point.
  • Enjoy a Food and Photo Safari in Bo-Kaap, the traditional home of Cape Malay culture and cuisine.

The following day, participate in an optional excursion to the famous wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, enjoying lunch at one of the few wineries in the world owned by women of colour; or relax and enjoy a day at leisure. In the evening, join fellow guests for dinner paired with exquisite local wines. Stay: Cape Grace Hotel (B/L/D)

Cross the heart of the African continent en route to Benin's capital of Cotonou, where you are greeted with a rousing display of traditional drumming, singing and dancing. At Ouidah, one of the epicentres of African Vodoun, tour the temple dedicated to the sacred python, which is believed to bestow vitality and protection.

Delve deeper into the realm of Vodoun, a religion born in West Africa that migrated to the Americas with the slave trade. Attend an authentic Vodoun ceremony, and then roam through the Sacred Forest and Foundation Zinsou, a modern museum of contemporary art. Visit the historical Museum of Ouidah, located in an old Portuguese fort built in 1721, its exhibits frankly recounting Benin's role in the Atlantic slave trade.

Then explore Ganvie, a sensational village on water, commonly referred to as the Venice of West Africa. A band and a dance troupe welcome you as you arrive. Watch as vendors in dugout canoes piled high with wares transact commerce. Take some time to shop the floating market, and then settle in for a relaxing canoe ride on the waterways of this exotic 300-year-old village. Stay: Sofitel Cotonou Marina Hotel & Spa (B/L/D)

Arrive at Morocco's Errachidia airport, where your A&K desert team is ready to escort you by four-wheel-drive vehicle through the city of Erfoud and into the desert for a drive across the dunes. Mount a camel for a ride up the famous Erg Znaigui sand dunes to your private tented camp. Enjoy cocktails while watching a spectacular sunset over the dunes, and then enjoy an unforgettable night in the Sahara, complete with a traditional performance by Gnaoua tribesmen and stargazing into the vast desert skies.

The next day, fly over the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech, arriving in time for lunch. The next day starts with a visit to the Ben Youssef Madrasa and the Dar el-Bacha Museum, followed by bustling, lively Djemaa el-Fna square, a kaleidoscope of activity. Later, explore the Majorelle Gardens, known for their vivid cobalt-blue buildings.

This evening, gather for a lavish Berber feast at Palm Grove camp, exclusively prepared for an unforgettable celebration of your African adventure. The next day, board your private jet for your flight to London, where you connect with your international departure flight.
