“An excellent trip for those with 4 weeks annual leave”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 4/5
A truly had a wonderful trip. We were a full coach and got on well. Most of us coming from the southern hemisphere were experiencing of first white Christmas and were prepared for it to be a lot more colder than what we experienced and although we didn't get to see fresh snow falling we did get to see it. (Attached photo is the view from my room in Switzerland). Lucerne and Mount Riga were definitely the highlights and I did like Venence where we went to the glass factory and watched an amazing glass blowing demostration as well going to the island of Burano famous for lace making.Other interesting places we went to were a French Perfume factory in Eze and the whilst in Inesbruk we had a tour at Swarovski Crystals. Pompeii was amazing and a beautiful day the added some sculptures around the grounds created a wonderful atmosphere. The best meal I had was in the Italian hills of Tuscany at a medieval winery in Sant' Andrea in Percussins. They brought out a whole rib eye and flambe it in front of us. It was New Year's Day when we were in Florence so unfortunately the museums were closed but we did get to try on some lovely Italian leather jackets and I brought an 18 carrot gold necklace to enhance a family heirloom. This was what made the trip special because if for some reason the itinerary needed to change we still experienced seeing interesting things.

“Travels to a Distance Land”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
5 stars! There was no way we could have seen the best if we were on our own. No queuing to see the major attractions, the off the track scenic routes, the attractions I didn't even know were there. Hassle free transportation, and a tour guide who took care of the little things, like packed breakfasts for those who left early on the departure day! Truely loved it! We will be doing it again!

“Interesting tour through Spain & Portugal”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 4/5
I enjoyed this trip which had a lot more positives than negatives. Some of the positives were: my fellow tourists, the vast majority of whom were friendly and enthusiastic, including my "bus buddy". She and I were pleasantly compatible; our tour guide who was efficient and friendly; seeing some amazing sites especially Toledo's walled city with its awe inspiring Toledo Cathedral, an extraordinary example of man's ingenuity especially considering the age of the building, its amazing sculptures and artwork; Gibraltar with its massive cave system, gorgeous Barbary monkeys and awesome views and topography; the dauntingly extensive Prado Museum in Madrid; Seville's wide tree lined avenues and gardens, the beach at Malaga; the Jorge Castle(?) in Lisbon and Lisbon itself.

The only city which I wasn't keen on was Madrid due to its crowds, heavy traffic, and pollution, added to by the huge numbers of people smoking in the streets and outdoor cafes. Actually this was an issue for me all over Spain, exacerbated by the smokers in our group who didn't seem to consider the rest of us when lighting up. Perhaps this can be addressed on future tours, by asking them to desist from smoking in a close knit crowd. Some other negatives were: the poor quality of the vegetarian dinners provided during both the optional extra experiences and the included ones. The two other vegetarians in our group said they just don't join the the optional dinner experiences because of the poor vegetarian offerings. It was also extremely disappointing to find out that tickets had not been obtained for Sagrada Familia or Alhambra Alcazar. We thought these tickets could have been booked well in advance for the expected number of guests and if necessary when numbers are definite, any unwanted tckets could be handed back & resold. Also seeing I paid the full single supplement, I was disappointed on 2 or 3 occasions to be allocated a single room which each time was small and cramped with not enough room to organise my suitcase and other possessions. Anyway overall the trip was an fun and interesting experience. I did think that too many of the experiences were optional extra and that these were too expensive for what was included in them.

“Definately Highlights of France!”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
You pay for what you get, it is Costsaver, so don't expect "The Ritz", accommodation was mainly good to very good, a bit tired looking but adequate and clean. Sometimes a distance away from the centre of town though. Coach was fairly new and very comfortable with power outlets in every second seat, no more flat batteries! Highly recommend.

“Enjoyable”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 4/5
This is a fast paced tour where you will see and do lots. You won't be bored. You will love the Swiss Alps, as well as Venice, Paris, Prague, Amsterdam, Munich and everything in between. The tour director and driver were both excellent. The down side is the distances on the road meaning some long days on the coach.

“Irish Wonder - Costsaver”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 2/5
The drivers and tour director were excellent. The tour took in highlights of Ireland - the south from Galway through Dingley Peninsula and Blarney Castle were fantastic areas. Jordy, the tour director went above and beyond to ensure our desire to explore areas by foot. The drivers also went above and beyond - in particular to ensure we attended a banquet despite a massive highway disaster caused by a truck! It was a really fun experience though - thanks to both Jordy and Tony the driver. Downside was accommodation was outside city centres and meals at some of establishments was mediocre, however this is a CostSaver tour. The tour dates fitted with our annual leave dates. In the future we would not select a Costsaver tour and would prefer to pay more for better standard of city accommodation and more active tour for sightseeing. Lauren from Global Journeys did an excellent job in promptly arranging our requested tour and providing updates and documentation efficiently. We will return to Lauren with Gobal Journeys for our annual trip in 2017 - Scandinavia. In future I would request Lauren from Global Journeys also book flights to correspond with our choice of tour - this worked beautifully the previous year, 2015 with our first tour of England, Scotland Wales with Global Journeys. (GJ: Thanks Leanne!)

“Absolute Jewels of Italy”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
This trip was amazing and was very much due to our Tour Director - Giacomo, who was so friendly and informative. I ended up doing all the optional experiences, I never thought that I would! Each of them was so enticing and it made for a very rounded trip full of everything. We still had free time to explore and shop. The group was full of Aussies, Canadians, Americans and South Africans with an age group from 15 - 60, with most being 30-40's. We were spoilt with the accommodation in Rome at the Egriffe, it is definitely more that the 3.5 stars that the tour promises. So when we went to Florence and stayed at the Novotel, we were all disappointed with the standard of the hotel! The final accommodation at the Antony in Venice was better! If you get to order a pizza from the down the road, we got 3 pizzas for 13 euro and it was the best pizza we had the whole time!

“Amazing European Adventure!”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
For my first trip to Europe I would give this experience a massive thumbs up! There were so many highlights that I will cherish. We journeyed through seven countries in twelve days almost seamlessly... given the hours of travel on land, the coach bus was clean and comfortable, accommodation was good value, the tour guide was very insightful and took us to some of the most incredible places in the world. I also made wonderful lifelong friendships that made it all the more worthwhile. It may have been the first but hopefully not the last adventure with Global Journeys.

CostSaver FAQ's

Some of the frequently asked questions CostSaver receive from their clients
What is the difference between Trafalgar's First Class and CostSaver European tours?

Both provide exceptional value for money, with the same professional service of a Tour Director and Driver and comfortable coaches. First Class tours include First Class Hotels, buffet breakfast daily and more sightseeing inclusions. CostSaver hotels are guaranteed Superior Tourist class or better and continental style breakfast daily.

When can I expect to get my travel documents & itinerary?

Travel documents, including any air tickets, tour itinerary, hotel lists, and helpful hints and other information are sent approximately 20 days prior to your tour departure. Your Global Journeys Tour Consultant can organise these earlier if you are travelling before your holiday starts.

How many people will be on my trip?

You'll find an average of 40 to 45 guests on trips throughout Europe, and a maximum of 52 guests on trips throughout the United States and Canada.

Will I have free time?

Each itinerary offers the perfect balance of downtime and discoveries. We also give you the opportunity to tailor your trip with Optional Experiences. You might choose to enjoy some of the best seats in the house at the world-famous Moulin Rouge in Paris. Or maybe take a magical early-morning balloon ride over the Napa Valley. Trafalgar's At Leisure tours offer a more relaxed pace, with later starts and longer stays in each place.

What are the coaches like?

We pride ourselves on having the finest fleet of fuel-efficient, fully air-conditioned coaches – all with reclining seats and on-board restrooms. The high vantage point from your coach's window means you can take in all the glorious scenery, whether it's a vast rural landscape or an urban city centre. We also have on board WiFi.

Are the hotels air conditioned?

We select our hotels for their quality, impeccable service and comfort, with the majority of them having air-conditioning. Few hotels in the northern Alps or Europe have air conditioning due to the colder climate.

Can I book a group of friends?

Global Journeys take the hassle out of booking a group holiday - and we offer some great discounts for five or more people. Groups of five to eight people will receive 5% off the land-only part of their trip, and larger groups will save even more.

What is the single traveller supplement?

If you prefer the privacy of your own room, you can opt for our single supplement. The cost will depend on your trip and can be found in the pricing section of the itinerary. On many of our trips we offer discounts on the standard single supplement. If you'd rather not incur the additional expense, consider our single traveller room share option. We'll accommodate you with a fellow guest of the same gender, on a twin-bed basis.

What if I have special dietary requirements?

We can accommodate guests who are vegetarian and can assist with diabetic, gluten-free and other medically-recommended diets. Please advise us at time of booking. Unfortunately, we're unable to supply meals in accordance with strict religious requirements. We can't provide salt-free, Kosher, Halal, requests for specific dietary supplements such as soya milk, and high protein or low-carb meals.

How much luggage can I bring?

You can bring one suitcase per person with the dimensions of 76cm x 46cm x 25cm (30" x 18" x 10") and weight not exceeding 23kg (50 lbs) due to the limited space on the coach. You can also bring one piece of hand luggage, provided it is small enough to take on the coach and does not have telescopic handles. All baggage handling is provided at no extra charge. One suitcase per person will be brought to your hotel room.

Are tips included?

We'll check you in, look after your luggage and take care of all hotel porterage, tips and gratuities - whether it is for restaurant staff, chambermaids or porters. The option to pre-pay gratuities for the Travel Director and Driver is available. Please request this at the time of enquiry and your Tour Consultant will include it in your quote.

What is Gold Seal Protection?

Gold Seal Protection is designed to provide you with peace of mind. For $99 should you choose to cancel your guided holiday for any reason, prior to departure from Australia , Trafalgar will refund your deposit and/or guided holiday payment. Gold Seal Protection must be paid with the deposit and cannot be added at any later date. If you wish for us to include this protection in your quote, please let us know when completing your 'Quote Request'.

Will I need to pack formal clothes?

This will depend on not only your personal preference, but the destinations you're visiting and the time of year you'll be travelling. We'd recommend bringing at least one smart outfit for special evenings.

What are Optional Experiences and when can I book them?

We realise that everyone likes some time to themselves, which is why we've left free time on all of our itineraries. If you want to get the most out of your destination, our Optional Experiences let you tailor your trip. Your Travel Director will tell you about all of the Optional Experiences available on the first day of your trip. Payment can be made by credit card or cash.

Will I need electrical adaptors?

Electrical plugs and outlets differ throughout the world. We recommend bringing a universal travel adaptor that's suitable for the countries you are travelling to.

Will I be able to get laundry done?

Most hotels do offer a laundry service and in some cities Laundromats are also available. However, it's sensible to try and pack enough clothing to avoid having to do laundry, as it can sometimes be costly or inconvenient.

Is there seat rotation on the coach?

Yes, your Travel Director will implement a seat rotation system, whereby all guests will rotate their seats on the coach daily. This allows for everyone to experience the spectacular views from different seats, and you'll have a better opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers.

What if I become ill on my trip and am unable to continue?

Your Travel Director will assist you with a doctor's visit or hospitalisation should you require. Trafalgar has a dedicated Customer Care Department in Europe, or our Operations Department in the relevant country will contact you to offer assistance and advice, coordinate with your travel insurance company and keep in touch until you are able to re-join the trip or return home. This service is included in the cost of your trip; however it is not a replacement for travel insurance, which we strongly advise you to purchase.

Why is my contact information collected when I book?

There may be times when unforeseen events beyond our control impacttravel schedules and potentially disrupt cruises, tours, or packages. These include, but are not limited to, severe weather conditions, acts of nature, and government travel advisories. Under such circumstances, it is critical that Trafalgar be able to contact you immediately and reliably - including nights, weekends, and holidays - to make sure we've informed you of any possible changes to your travel.
