Williamsburg - Richmond - Monticello - Shenandoah National Park.

Drive westward to Richmond, once the capital of the Confederacy, for a short sightseeing tour. See Monument Avenue, the White House of the Confederacy, the State Capitol, and ST. JOHN'S CHURCH, where Patrick Henry proclaimed, "Give me liberty or give me death!" Before arriving in Charlottesville, we visit the graceful home of the third U.S. President, Thomas Jefferson. The MONTICELLO ESTATE reflects Jefferson's skills as an artist, architect, and designer. A guided visit features the impressive mansion designed by Jefferson himself. Enjoy a tour of Gettysburg and hear your Local Guide vividly recount the battle. Also spend some time exploring the newly renovated museum and cyclorama. Through Pennsylvania Dutch Country to Lancaster County, home of the religious Amish and Mennonite sects. Stop at the AMISH FARM & HOUSE, where a Local Guide explains the faith, culture, and way of life of these people, for whom tradition forbids the use of electricity or telephones in the home. “Great American History tour”

This trip turned out better than we expected for the price and what we saw and did was good value for money. The tour director [Jim Ryan] was terrific, and the bus driver was great. I would not have included the visit to Valley Forge however it was irrelevant, instead they could have spent some more time maybe in Richmond or the Shenandoah Valley and still have had time for a farewell dinner last night. The history was fantastic. May I also suggest anyone who does this tour to do your homework in american history before you leave Australia. We read up for weeks prior and it really helped piece together all the places we visited which included both the war of independence and the civil war which of course is one hundred years apart. The fact that we had already visited Boston first helped because that is where the first shot was fired. We met some lovely people on the journey also.
