Day By Day

Arrive In Rome, Italy

Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore this ancient capital. This evening, meet your Tour Director and fellow travellers.

Rome, the "Eternal City," is steeped in history, vibrantly alive and exciting, and absolutely unique! Included sightseeing with a Local Guide starts in St. Peter's Square, followed by a visit to the ROMAN FORUM and the mighty COLOSSEUM for full immersion into life during the Roman Empire. (B)

Rome - Pisa - Montecatini

Vistas of rolling hills, rows of cypress trees, terraced vineyards, olive groves, and rural villages form the backdrop of your journey through beautiful Tuscany. Stop in Pisa to visit the Square of Miracles and see the amazing Leaning Tower. Arrive in Montecatini. (B)

Montecatini Excursion To Florence

Today, enjoy an included excursion to Florence. Your Local Guide will show you most of the city highlights on the walking tour. You will see Piazza Santa Croce; beautiful Piazza Signoria; Palazzo Vecchio and its courtyard; Loggia dei Lanzi; and, to top it all, Piazza del Duomo and its cathedral with the Giotto Campanile, and the magnificent East Door of the Baptistry, known as the "Gate of Paradise." (B/D)

Montecatini - La Spezia - Cinque Terre - Genoa

Travel towards La Spezia, a province in Italy's Liguria region. Then, hop aboard the TRAIN to discover some of the five spectacular Cinque Terre villages. Here, the beauty of the rugged cliffs and romantic fishing villages once inspired poet Lord Byron. From Levanto, head towards Genoa, birthplace of explorer Christopher Columbus. (B)

Genoa - Milan - Lake Maggiore

Today's included guided tour is an excellent introduction to Genoa. A maze of squares and alleys, the city grew around the port, a natural inlet, and boasts the largest medieval historical centre in Europe. Some of the highlights include the remains of the city's 17th-century fortifications. Next, head north into the plains of Lombardy, and stop in Milan to marvel at its magnificent gothic DUOMO. Then, continue to Baveno on Lake Maggiore. (B)

Lake Maggiore Excursion To Lugano

Time to relax and get to know Lake Maggiore, one of Italy's largest lakes. Located on the very edge of Alpine Switzerland, on clear days you can see the peaks of the Swiss Alps. Take advantage of the included excursion to visit Lugano in Italian-speaking Canton Ticino. (B)

Lake Maggiore - Verona - Venice Area

Travel across the Po River plain and stop in the romantic city of Verona to see Romeo and Juliet's balcony, and enjoy some time at leisure marvelling at the Roman amphitheatre before reaching the Venice area. (B)

Venice is more like a marvellous film set than a real-life city, with its criss-crossing canals, gondolas and water buses, arched bridges, palaces, and piazzas. The included orientation starts with a BOAT RIDE to St. Mark's Square, and is followed by time at leisure and a chance to watch Venetian GLASSBLOWERS fashion their delicate objects as they did centuries ago. Don't miss out on the optional gondola trip, gliding along the picturesque canals with a local troubadour to serenade you. (B/D)

Venice Area - Ravenna - Assisi - Perugia

An interesting drive southwards right across the Po Delta to Ravenna, renowned for its treasure of byzantine mosaics, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to Assisi, enclosed by ramparts and little changed since the Middle Ages. This is the town of the deeply mystical and poetic St. Francis-see the BASILICA OF ST. FRANCIS with its famous frescoes by Giotto, brought back to life by a Local Guide. Overnight in beautiful nearby Perugia, capital of Umbria. (B/D)

Perugia - Pompeii - Sorrento

Drive to POMPEII, where time stopped for the rich, aristocratic town with the terrible eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. On the included guided visit, see the remains of luxurious villas, temples, theatre, and forum. Carry on to Sorrento, set on a plateau above the waters of the Bay of Naples. Wander the winding streets lined with shops and stalls, and sit with a glass of wine, absorbing the easy-going life of this charming resort. (B)

Sorrento Boat Trip To Capri

Enjoy a day trip to the legendary island, surrounded by rocky coastline and where the crashing sea has formed awe-inspiring caves. The town with its pretty piazza, maze of streets, fashionable boutiques, and cosy restaurants is a mecca for the jet set. Explore on your own or take an optional island tour. (B/D)

Sorrento - Rome

This morning, time at leisure or enjoy an optional excursion to Positano before returning to Rome. (B)

Your holiday ends with breakfast this morning. (B)

“Good Christmas/NY holiday in Italy”

This is my first tour with Cosmos. I was made aware by my friends that it is not in the same league as Trafalgar and Insight Vacations which I normally book. I considered the Cosmos tour as the itinerary was heaps better compared to other providers at that time. I was glad I went ahead booking my holiday as I enjoyed the tour. The tour itinerary provided a lot of free time to explore places we visited which was my main concern with previous tours I have done. There was not a lot of included meals in the ititnerary which meant more flexibility. I was surprised that there were 41 of us in the group but it all worked out in the end as everyone was considerate except for one incident in Pisa where we have to wait for an hour for one guest who in the end we left behind after our wonderful tour director, Mattia, made a difficult decision.

Mattia, our Tour Director and Nino, our Coach Driver were wonderful. They were friendly and accommodating and nothing was too hard for them. I like how they consider loo breaks for long journeys and they wait outside the bus exits offering to help those that may need assistance getting off the bus. They even organised drinks at our accommodation in Venice to toast the New Year. Accommodation wise, I found the location of where we stayed in Rome (Green Park Pamphili and Holiday Inn San Giovannie) and Venice (Holiday Inn Venice Mestre) too far from the centre of town. Comfort wise, accommodation at Montecatini, Venice, Perugia and Holiday Inn San Giovanni were good. Green Park Pamphili needs some renovation, Star Hotels President in Genova needs to fix its heating control as we had to open window to cool down room), Hotel Atlantico at Lake Maggiore had narrow and short beds.

Appreciated the included breakfast in our accommodations, but breakfast provided at Hotel Atlantico (Lake Maggiore) and Hotel Ascott (Sorrento) leaves much to be desired. Included tours offered were good. My favourites were in Florence, Cinque Terre, Lugano and Assisi. Enjoyed most of the included dinners, except that you have to pay extra for bottled water. Best included meal was in Rome (Christmas lunch) and Sorrento which was our farewell meal. Local guides provided were knowledgable and with a good command of English. Optional tours were provided to us which includes special dinners to experience local cuisine. Best optional tours I took for me were in Capri, Pompeii (with hail at the start of our walk), Positano (despite the bad weather). Best optional dinner I joined was in Venice.

WiFi availability on the coach was good as you can catch up on your email and/or read news. Our tour bus broke down while we were in our optional excursion in Positano and a replacement coach was provided within the hour with the same comfort except for WiFi. Our coach driver, Nino, was so good that I can relax and doze off. No sudden braking or speeding. Just constant. I found the tour good value for what was offered. I will not hesitate joining another Cosmos tour if the itinerary suits me.

“Italy - Simply the Best”

This was our fifth Cosmos tour. Cosmos promised us a taste of Italy on this tour which is what we got. The regions covered included the rolling hills of Tuscany, the fishing villages of Cinque Terre, the northern picturesque lakes combined with Alps, Venice with its canals instead of roads, ruins in Pompeii, the absolutely stunning Amalfi Coast and the historical city of Rome. Each region was so different from the other. Our group consisted of 44 with the majority being Aussies. Each day started very early to ensure that our Cosmos coach was the first coach at the destination. As we were leaving the other tourist coaches were arriving. The tour ran on schedule and as always was very professionally organised. We did all of the optional excursions and they were truly worth the money. The hotels were all of a very good standard, with our one at Lake Maggiore being upgraded to give us sweeping views of the lake and alps. Overall a terrific holiday and would highly recommend this tour to others wishing to see Italy. Thank you Cosmos for another enjoyable adventure!

“Wonderful trip to Italy”

Global Journeys (Leanne) is wonderful to organized the trip for me and my friend which was great and much appreciated. Everywhere was interesting and exciting. The tour was well organized Tour Director (Ingrid) and Driver (Giorgio) were both wonderful and extremely professional. There is no way you would have seen and done so much if you had traveled independently so it's good value for money , my friend and I chose this tour because unlike other tours, it covered most of Italy of all the main places we wanted to see. The majority of hotels were great, several were outstanding, one not so good but we were very impressed with overall standards. I will definitely book my tour with Global Journeys again and recommend it to all my friends and family.

“Wonderful trip in Italy”

What can I say, this trip was over my expectations. I got to see all those cities that I had previously only heard of. Beautiful cities, it was sometimes crowded, so extra care was needed when crossing the street - cars will race with you even you are on the pedestrian crossing line! Everything was good, we had 2 hotels changed, 2 amazing hotels, one the5 star hotel Dino in Lake Maggiore and another one was beautiful Parco Dei Principi in Sorrento. There were only 17 in the group, everyone get along very well, it was just an amazing trip. Beautiful Italy!
