Arrive Tokyo

Your journey begins today when you arrive in Tokyo and transfer to your hotel. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner with your fellow travellers and Tour Manager. Stay Two Nights: Tokyo, Shinagawa Prince Hotel, or similar (D)


Your full-day tour of Tokyo includes a visit to the ancient Asakusa Kannon Temple and fascinating Ameyoko Market as well as taking in the Imperial Palace Plaza. Later enjoy a visit to Nakajima no Ochaya, a tea house in the Hamarikyu Garden that dates back to 1704. Afterwards, spend time at the Edo Tokyo Museum. (B)

Tokyo, Hakone

Journey to the resort town of Hakone by train, travelling in a ‘Romance Car' (observation car) on the narrow gauge line. Tour Hakone National Park, then cruise Lake Ashi, before continuing to Owakudani's hot springs. Stay: Hakone, Prince Hotel, or similar (B)

Mount Fuji, Matsumoto

Travel to Mount Fuji, arguably Japan's most distinctive landmark. Driving along the foot of the famous mountain, disembark at the Mount Fuji Visitor Centre to learn more about the peak. Later, enjoy a visit to Matsumoto Castle. Stay: Matsumoto, Hotel Buena Vista, or similar (B)

Matsumoto, Takayama

Travel to Takayama, stopping at the nearby Folk Village, an open air museum of farm dwellings. Overlooking the Takayama Valley, some of the buildings date back 500 years. Spend the night in Takayama, full of narrow streets and wooden houses. Stay: Takayama, Oan Hotel, or similar (B)

Takayama, Nagoya, Hiroshima

After a guided tour of Takayama, enjoy a journey on the Hida Train to Nagoya, continuing onwards by bullet train to Hiroshima. Devastated in World War II, Hiroshima is now a symbol of peace for Japan. Stay Two Nights: Sheraton Hiroshima, or similar (B)

Miyajima Island, Hiroshima

Today, travel by tram and boat to Miyajima Island. Enjoy a walking tour, which includes a visit to the beautiful Itsukushima Shrine. See the Tori Gate, which seems to float on the water at high tide. (B)

Hiroshima, Kyoto

Visit the World Peace Memorial Park and the A-Bomb Dome Museum. Then, listen to a talk from a Hiroshima survivor. Later, travel by bullet train to Kyoto. Stay Three Nights: Kyoto, Hotel Grand Bach, or similar (B)


Tour Kyoto landmarks including: the Nijo Castle, the Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion); and Kyoto Imperial Palace. Later, enjoy a traditional tea ceremony in a Japanese farmhouse. (B)

Cu Chi Tunnels, Ho Chi Minh City

This morning take a step back in time and revisit the military history of the area. Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels, built by Vietnamese resistance fighters during the Vietnam War. Part of a larger network, the tunnels were used by Viet Cong guerrillas as hiding spots during combat. They also served as communication and supply routes, hospitals, weapons caches and living quarters for numerous guerrilla fighters. (B)

Ho Chi Minh City, Embark Ship

Drive to My Tho Port and board your river ship for a relaxing journey aboard the luxurious RV La Marguerite. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Dinner on board. Stay Seven Nights: RV La Marguerite (B/L/D)

Cai Be, Sa Dec

A local boat will take you to the river-land town of Cai Be today. Visit floating markets, then cruise to Sa Dec, where French writer Marguerite Duras met her Vietnamese-Chinese lover, Huynh Thuy Le and enjoy a tour of Huynh Thuy Le's old house. Later, visit a local brick factory and a Cao Dai Temple. (B/L/D)

Tan Chau, Border Crossing

Transfer to a small boat for a journey along the tiny tributaries that snake around Tan Chau, step ashore for a rickshaw tour and visit a local island, lush with greenery. Spend the rest of today on board your luxurious river ship. Perhaps take in a fruit-carving demonstration while you cross the border into Cambodia. Continue cruising overnight to Phnom Penh. (B/L/D)

Phnom Penh

This morning embark on a moving excursion to the infamous Killing Fields, before visiting the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, located on the site of the Khmer Rouge's notorious Security Prison 21 (S-21). Here, you'll learn of the atrocities inflicted upon Cambodians during Pol Pot's regime in the mid-to-late 1970s. Later this afternoon, take in Phnom Penh's river promenade as your ship nears the capital. After lunch on board, disembark and tour the Royal Palace. Afterwards, head to the Silver Pagoda. (B/L/D)

Phnom Penh, Koh Chen

Enjoy time at leisure in Phnom Penh. Later today, cruise to Koh Chen, a village specialising in the manufacture of copperware. (B/L/D)

Oudong, Kampong Tralach

Disembark in Prek K'dam and travel by coach to Oudong. Like a Local -visit the monastery for a Buddhist blessing. Afterwards, continue to Kampong Tralach to visit Wat Kampong Tralach Pleu. Like a Local - enjoy an ox-cart ride. (B/L/D)

Kampong Chhnang

Enjoy a boat excursion into the wetlands near Kampong Chhnang, then cast off towards Prek K'dam. Tonight, enjoy a superb dinner. (B/L/D)

Disembark Ship at Prek K'dam, Siem Reap, Angkor
