Frequently Asked Questions

Why should we choose a Cosmos Tour in Asia?

Cosmos has been turning travel dreams into reality for more than 50 years, so when it comes to travelling in Asia you couldn't be in better hands. Having pioneered the concept of low-cost travel packages in 1962, Cosmos has grown to become one of the world's most respected tour companies. We work hard to get more for your dollar and we go to great lengths to ensure your holiday is perfectly planned. Each of our itineraries combines the iconic landmarks with those unexpected gems that make travelling so rewarding. We've allowed free time for you to relax or explore on your own, and we've created longer stays in key destinations so you get an even better insight. So if you've ever dreamt of standing on the Great Wall of China, speeding across Japan in a bullet train or gazing in awe upon the Taj Mahal, then Cosmos is for you.

I'm leaving for Asia in 4 weeks, when will I get my travel documents?

Travel Documents, including e-ticket itineraries, are sent by post approximately four weeks prior to departure, provided full payment and Emergency Contact Details have been received.

Who else will be travelling with me, and how many will be on tour with me?

Cosmos attracts a wide range of clientele of many ages from all over the English speaking world. Cosmos offers an affordable way to travel and as such the size of the Cosmos group can vary from departure to departure. A Cosmos coach can carry up to 51 passengers however on many tours the number of passengers is below 50 people.

What type of transport will we be travelling on?

Your transport on each tour is described on the 'Overview' tab of each itinerary, however internal flights & private car, minibus or coach when travelling on tour are standard depending on numbers booked. Cosmos uses the custom of daily seat rotation which gives every tour member a variety of vantage points to see the passing countryside and city scenery.

What hotel standards can I expect on an Asian Cosmos tour?

After a day of travelling you want to relax at a comfortable, clean, and attractive hotel. Although different countries have different standards of accommodation, Cosmos have selected hotels throughout Asia suitable for your travelling needs. Cosmos hotels are always located in good neighbourhoods, some more centrally located than others in residential areas. Especially in large cities, we sometimes prefer good hotels in residential areas on the outskirts to less desirable or overpriced downtown hotels. Generally all of our hotel accommodations will feature twin rooms with private facilities, TV's, tea/coffee facilities and some also with internet access.

Hotels are listed on each tour page. They are mainly first-class (F) and moderate first-class (MF) establishments, but we also feature some superior first-class (SF) and tourist-class (T) hotels.

Are breakfasts & dinners included in the tour price?

Breakfast is included on most days for Cosmos tours travelling through Asia. The number of dinners (and lunches) provided varies from tour to tour - details of the exact meals included in the price of each tour can be found on the 'Overview' tab above. For clients wanting to sample some of the 'local' fare, there are optional excursions which feature dining out at local restaurants.

What is the difference between a tour director & a local guide? What are they like?

Your tour director will accompany you from the start to the end of your tour, educating you on the places and the history of the destination. Local guides are included in many cities to give you in-depth information on the culture, history and attractions of the city. Both Tour Director and Local Guides have a passion for travel, people and the destination and look forward to sharing their passion with you.

What does the tour cost include?

It's those rare and unexpected encounters that make travel in Asia so rewarding, which is why Cosmos has searched further to uncover the things you'll remember forever. Among the iconic landmarks and quintessential experiences, we've discovered unique ways to create a deeper connection with each destination. Please refer to the itineraries for a complete description of what is included in the holiday of your choice.

Do coach tour prices include tips to Tour Directors, Drivers & Local Guides?

It is customary worldwide to pay tips to Tour Directors and Drivers on all international vacations and these are not included in your quote. The option to prepay these tips prior to departure is possible however. Please ask your consultant to include this in your quote. You will receive Gratuity vouchers with your travel documents and all you need to do is give this to the Tour Director, Driver, Cruise Director and ship's crew at the end of the vacation.

Are there optional excursions & is there much free time?

In addition to included sightseeing, we offer a rich program of optional excursions, all full of interest and very reasonably priced. Optional activities can be booked through your Tour Director.
